The Final

Surprise, surprise. Hady is the new Sing*pore idol.
The most obvious choice became the most popular choice.

What clinched it for him, other than the scores of mainly-Malay Ole-screaming fans, was this:
He saved his best for last.

While Jonathan seized the initial introduction with more class and aplomb, Hady seemed overawed by the big stage and was outgunned.

That supremacy continued, as Jon's delivered his best song - Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars - first, which gave him an early edge.
I was surprised that Hady did not sing his Malay song, which was easily the best performance of season 2.

Then it all started to fall apart for Jon.
The setpiece song - his second - was his worst. He went out of tune several times, and crashlanded big-time with You Give Me Wings.

It did not help that the above song was more suited to Hady, who had a wider vocal range and a more radio-friendly tone.

That left Hady to deliver the coup de grace with You Give Me Wings.
And he lifted the entire audience up with his inspirational rendition to land the final blow to Jon's hopes. There was really little doubt to the result thereafter.

The competition was a singing one, and eventually the best singer won, even though he seems a carbon copy of Taufik and went out of tune a few times.

But he should savour every moment of nation-wide fame now.
Judging from past pop idol winners, the only way his popularity can go is this way - downhill.
