Great Day At The Office

Rare are the days when I feel really accomplished after a day's work, but yesterday was one such occasion.

It was Nomination Day.

Wrote page leads for both Prime and Sports even though I was not in the team covering the GE (which is practically all the crack reporters in the newsroom).

It was totally unexpected - given that only the who's who of the newspaper wrote articles for Prime yesterday.

The story came from a last-minute media briefing. And I was given little information, and late notice.

But the best thing was - I managed to finish all my work before 6.30pm.
That meant an evening of soccer at the roof-top court.

Was misfiring for the entire game, but I saved my best for last.
Scored the final goal of the hour-long session.
It was a moment to savour - a sweetly-struck half volley with my left foot after my right-footed goal-bound effort had been saved.

But it was that Prime byline on Nom Day which was the real goal.

Rarely does a reserve, who is given a last-minute chance to play in the first team, end up scoring a goal!

I was that newsroom reserve yesterday.
And boy, it felt good.

?!?

Can't believe it.
One of the articles that I wrote actually appeared in an NTU business law exam paper!
Killer question...

Credit to Sop for spotting it.

Dating 101

Always go for a girl who wears glasses.

Why?

1. Because she'll always look better when she takes off her glasses...
2. You'll also look better to her when the above happens...

Random Revelation

This random thought cropped up on Saturday.

All lawyers and judges ought to be Christians.

Why?

Because without the 10 Commandments - which provided the first basis for a code of laws - they would be jobless!

In the absence of a absolute law-giver and superior authority, there cannot be absolute truth that's beyond a shadow of a doubt.

In Christ Alone

IN CHRIST ALONE my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! - who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand!

Two Superb Shows

Had a blast at the movies today.

Watched two superb shows - The Art of Seduction and V for Vendetta.

The first is a romantic Korean comedy, the second an English action thriller.

You won't be disappointed...

Muvo Mornings

From 3pm to 11am, then 10.30am.
Now we start work at 9.30am.

But this blogger is happier. Why?
Because of a new friend - my $126 Creativ* Muvo V200 512mb mp3 player.

Laptop bag in one hand, and the 38g muvo hung around my neck, I now take the LRT and MRT as I've to beat the rush hour taxi crowd.

Previously I paid $9 for a cab ride to work. Plus $2.50 if I've to call.
Now - $2.13. Time difference: 30-40 mins

But it's not just my finances that are improving.
More importantly, my spiritual and work life are advancing as well.

Now, I start my work day by listening to a sermon stored on my muvo en route to the office.
That gives me the perfect start to a usually stress-filled work day.
