Cup Heartbreak

The pic says it all...

I remember weeping after we lost the 1996 FA Cup Final 0-1 to Man U. I was 16 then.

Just now, I had to fight back the tears and anger as I watched Chelsea snatch the League Cup away.

It was painful.

More so when you take a 1st min lead, only to concede three goals.

More so, when your captain, Steven Gerrard, who had a quiet game, missed a simple chance before scoring an own goal for the club he's tipped to move to this summer.

More so, when you have an insensitive Chelsea fan texting you at the end of the game.

Will a good night's sleep erase all that???

Thank God I'm off tomorrow...

Sick

Am having serious thoughts of switching jobs or desks after two terrible days where I get treated like dirt in the newsroom.... but the thought of paying $200,000 or more to break my bond just means I have to take all the shit and somehow enjoy it.

Having been at Sports desk for 6 months has convinced me that journalism is not my cup of tea. Sure- I can be good at it, but I'll never among the top.

Quite simply, success in this field doesn't appeal to me. If someone tells me I'll be the chief editor tm... my first response will be "so what?"

Having to think of stories everyday, meeting new people and talking to them, dealing with Singaporean newsmakers who are afraid to speak their mind, and the unnecessary stress of having your every word perused by a society with bosses that are obsessed with perfection, is not something that I've spent 3 yrs at the LSE for. The hrs are long, pay pathetic.

And meeting uni frens who earn twice or three times your current salary in jobs that interest you more, that suit your education, does little to help...

The 'pep talk' the other day with my boss did little to inspire me... u can't expect me to befriend all these sports ppl over nite right? I'm still a rookie reporter who, incidentally, hasn't been sent to the company's Basic Reporting Course... *sigh* and u talk to me about writing page 1 stories, winning awards etc.

What I do best: turning $1 into $2, not writing about sports...

CNY + Vday rojak

Gosh... am feeling the effects of two consecutive days of hanging out at the beach, and a week of feasting on all the goodies.

Woke up with an inflamed throat today, and decided to hibernate at home.

CNY was great, catching up with relatives I haven't seen for a while and meeting my cousin's 17-month-old kid, Sandra.

Dealt with the usual 'still don't have a girlfriend' kinda qns from my aunties with ease (i think they want an indication of how long they still have to give me ang pows)... deflected those qns to my work, and the fact that I'm still young and enjoy my bachelorhood... heh.

Even managed to head up to KL for a short trip to recce for church camp hotels with the committee. This camp is gonna be fantastic if we can get the five-star hotel at the right price...

There's nothing like a short break away from work to resurrect your social life... heh.

Had a V-day with a difference with jon, mich, vic, josh, wenhao, grace, denice, sop and benson- chilled out at Palawan beach by the Dolphin Lagoon, and played "Kings and Assholes".

We had a picnic amist all the lovey-dovey couples... think we dampened the romantic atmosphere of the beach with our cheerful banter, but who cares?!

Finally... a proper CNY

Well, after THREE years of CNY in freezing London,

Where I have to settle for an overpriced and less-than-ideal reunion dinner, go to school, and miss out on all the goodies...

And not forgetting having to collect my angbaos much later

I thank God that I'm back here for the occasion!

Here's to a prosperous and blessed Year of the Rooster for all!
